Why it matters
Your registered mobile number receives OTPs and fraud alerts. An old address or number can mean missed notices, failed transactions or an account restriction. Update both as soon as they change.
Mobile number or email
- Online: net banking, the app or an ATM using your debit card and PIN, depending on the bank.
- Branch: fill the service request or customer request form, attach ID proof and submit.
- Verify the new number with an OTP.
Address change
- Submit the bank’s address change form with a valid address proof (for example Aadhaar, passport or driving licence, depending on what the bank accepts).
- Some banks allow a digital address update using Aadhaar or DigiLocker.
- Expect a new KYC or verification step. Your old documents may still be needed.
Open your bank’s own forms page from our bank forms directory (SBI, HDFC, ICICI, Axis, PNB, Bank of Baroda, Canara, Kotak, IndusInd, Union Bank, IDFC FIRST).
Common mistakes
- Updating the address with one bank but not the others.
- Using a number that is not linked to your Aadhaar or is shared with someone else.
- Replying to “update your details” messages with links — they may be scams. Use only the official app or branch.
FAQ
Do I need to visit the branch?
Many banks let you update the mobile number or email online. Address changes often need documents, so a branch visit or a digital document check may be required.
Will my cards and cheque book change?
Your account number stays the same, but a new card may be sent to the new address if you request it.
